1958        Studied at Hospitalfield Summer School, Arbroath.

1958-59   Post Graduate year Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee.

1959        David Murray Scholarship(R.A.).

1959        Scottish Education Department Travelling Scholarship (five months in Europe).

1960-61   Studied Royal Academy Schools, London.(Leverhulme Grant Award).

1961        David Murray Scholarship(R.A.).

1962        Chalmers Bursary(R.S.A.).

1965-66   Studied for teaching certificate at Dundee College of Education.

1967        Scottish Arts Council Award( to visit New York).

1970        Major prizewinner, Arts Council of N. Ireland Open Painting Exhibition(International Jury).

1975        Elected A.R.S.A. (resigned 1990 ).

1976        Elected Professional Member S.S.A..

1977        Scottish Arts Council Visual Arts Bursary ( Short Term Award ).

1979        Gillies Bequest Award R.S.A. ( to tour Ireland ).

Academic appointments

1961-63   Taught art to young children. Various schools in Fife.

1966-68   Taught Art to adolescent children. Bell Baxter High School, Cupar, Fife.

1968-79   Visiting Lecturer at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee. (taught visual studies,

basic design, object drawing and life drawing in school of design).

1976-79   Visiting Lecturer at both Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Glasgow School of Art.

1979        Appointed Lecturer in Painting Studios, School of Fine Art, Glasgow School of Art.
