“I have always had a great affection for the East Neuk (of Fife). Childhood holidays in Elie, teenage visits to the seething summer life of Anstruther and fond recollections of my first student summer job as a beach attendant in Crail in 1956. The East Neuk is ripe with memories for me but I also came here in 1987 to seek inspiration and to start afresh after six difficult years in which painting for me was like extracting blood from a stone.
I walked the beaches with my two dogs, Beth and Bo, listened to the waves at night, witnessed awe inspiring skies and steeped myself in the special quality that only exists here.
Slowly but surely the new paintings began to appear.”
